Family Works recognises all clients have the right to:

  • be treated with respect, taking into account their needs, values and beliefs, and to have their privacy respected
  • be free from discrimination, coercion, harassment and exploitation
  • dignity and independence
  • services of an appropriate standard that comply with legal, professional, ethical and other relevant standards
  • effective, open and honest communication
  • be fully informed
  • make informed choices and actively participate in the service
  • make a complaint about the service.

Children and young people have the same right to confidentiality as adults provided that they are able to understand the risks and consequences of any particular decision. Exceptions to this principle are made when the child is likely to be, or has been harmed.
